Bluesky Battles Bogus Accounts with Stricter Policies
Social media platform Bluesky is witnessing rapid user growth, but the influx has led to challenges with parody and fake accounts. In response, Bluesky is implementing stricter policies to maintain transparency and authenticity, according to Mashable.
Bluesky’s safety team announced via a thread that parody, satirical, or fan accounts are allowed only if they explicitly identify themselves as such in their name and bio to avoid confusion with official accounts.
The platform is also tackling "identity churning," where accounts initially gain followers under one identity and later rebrand completely. This behavior has contributed to a rise in fake accounts, with a security expert noting that 44% of the top 100 Bluesky accounts have at least one impersonator.
These measures aim to provide a safer and more transparent user experience as Bluesky continues to grow its community.
